During the last week of September, YMCA of the USA is encouraging all associations, branches, and programs to help register voters during our “Exercise Your Rights” Week, which includes National Voter Registration Day on Tues., Sept. 25th. For our Youth and Government programs, we recommend sharing resources with your delegations and chapter to host registration events at schools in addition to having Youth and Government students volunteer to register voters at their local YMCAs.

  • Rock the Vote: Democracy Class | September 17-23
Rock the Vote’s Democracy Class is a free, nonpartisan curriculum that educates high schoolers about the importance and history of voting and registers/pre-registers students to vote. They are calling on partners to host Democracy Class in classrooms, community centers, and student organizations across the country the week of Constitution Day and the week before National Voter Registration Day.
  • YGPA Council Survey | Due Fri., September 14
The YGPA Council has compiled a survey to help direct the work we plan to do over the next two years. If you have any questions, please email lydia@myig.org.
  • Youth Advocate Program Intent Form | Due Wed., September 12
To help us gauge the interest in this year’s program, we’re asking each state to let us know if you are “in” or “not in” for the Youth Advocate Program using the intent form above. This will help us determine the size and the makeup of this year’s program, so your response is critical as we finalize planning.
  • We Vote Next Summit – Eighteenx18 | Due Fri., September 7
One of the many organizations helping youth register and mobilize fellow youth voters is Eighteenx18. They are hosting a summit in Los Angeles (September 28-29) to help engage the next generation of voters in America through the power of creative storytelling. If you have any interested students, encourage them to fill out the quick online application by the deadline on Friday, September 7th.
