Program Overview

Rhode Island YMCA Youth and Government offers a middle school (grades 6-8) model state government assembly to students and schools across the state, and partners with the Rhode Island Council for the Social Studies who provides a high school (grades 9-12) program.

These annual assembly allow students to represent their schools and communities in a variety of roles across the different branches and components of state government. 

Students are offered the opportunity to learn about a wide variety of issues, develop critical thinking skills, and articulate their beliefs while engaging constructively with their peers from around Rhode Island.

Getting Started

Whether you’re brand new to Youth and Government or one of our experienced participants and advisors, here’s everything you’ll need as you get started each year:

  • Learn how to join and start a delegation at your school or YMCA  
  • View our calendar to see the dates for each assembly and other program events
  • Visit our high school and middle school assembly pages to plan your participation
  • Need-based scholarships are also available for interested students.
