First held in 1949 and then held each year since 1962, the YMCA Youth Governors Conference brings together students who serve as the lead Presiding Officer for their respective YMCA Youth and Government state programs. In most states, this role belongs to our YMCA Youth Governors, and also includes the Youth Mayor in Washington, DC and the Youth Secretaries General in several of our Model UN programs.
The conference is held each June in Washington, DC, offering participants the opportunity to develop their skills as servant leaders during a week-long immersive, collaborative and educational experience.
Registration for the Youth Governors Conference opens each January. Registration is only open to the Youth Governor or other statewide elected position designated by each respective state program:
Update: The 2020 Youth Governors Conference has been cancelled due to the impacts of COVID-19. However, we are excited to work with this year’s Youth Governors as part of the launch of our YMCA Youth Governors Association!
In addition to program staff from around the country, the Youth Governors Conference Planning Committee also includes College Staff, who also serve on the committee and at the conference.

During the Youth Governors Conference, we are excited to welcome Youth and Government alumni to join us for our Alumni Reception, where we’ll recognize our Distinguished Service Award winner and hear from special guests to talk about their Youth and Government and public service experiences.
