Program Overview

Vermont YMCA Youth and Government offers a model state government assembly to students in middle and high school (grades 6-12) across the state.  The 2024 Assembly will be April 12. 2024 at the Capitol Plaza Hotel in Montpelier.  Students will have the chance to debate bills written by themselves and their peers as well as tour the State Capitol and Vote for the Youth Governor and othe leadership positions.

Our annual assembly allow students to represent their schools and communities in a variety of roles across the different branches and components of state government. Students are offered the opportunity to learn about a wide variety of issues, develop critical thinking skills, and articulate their beliefs while engaging constructively with their peers from around Vermont.

Getting Started

Whether you’re brand new to Youth and Government or one of our experienced participants and advisors, here’s everything you’ll need as you get started each year:

  • Learn how to join and start a delegation at your school or YMCA  
  • View our calendar to see the dates for each assembly and other program events
  • Visit our assembly manual to plan your participation
  • Need-based scholarships are also available for interested students.

The conference is free to all delegates from schools with an adult who has qualified Civic Health Champion, and $25 per student otherwise.
